Area Schools Remain Closed As Teachers Walk for Education

Several area schools have announced that they will continue to be closed Tuesday and Wednesday due to the teacher walkout. It’s still unclear what will happen beyond Wednesday.

Larry Calloway, Gans School superintendent, announced Monday that the school will be closed until the teacher walkout is resolved.

“That is open ended,” Calloway said. “We don’t know what is going to happen. We will probably do what the other schools are doing.”

Sallisaw, Muldrow, Roland, Central, and Vian schools have also announced they will close through Wednesday.

April 3 is the designated date for the free ACT test offered to high school juniors. Most of the schools that will be closed will still be offering the test. Central School has cancelled the test. Parents can go to their student’s school’s website and/or Facebook page for more information.

Most schools are also offering free meals for their students. This information can also be found on the schools’ website/Facebook page.
