Council Approves Donation of Surplus Law Enforcement Equipment

The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council approved the donation of surplus rifles and bulletproof vests to two Sequoyah County law enforcement agencies at the legislative body’s April meeting.

The donations included surplus rifles to the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and surplus bulletproof vests to the Muldrow Police Department. All surplus items were donated from the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.

“Donations like this go a long way in helping local law enforcement agencies, and I am proud of what these specific donations will mean for the increased safety of both Cherokee and non-Cherokee citizens in Sequoyah County,” said Tribal Councilor Bryan Warner, who sponsored both donations. “Part of our job as Tribal Councilors is being mindful of situations where we can make tribal dollars or resources go even further, and this was a great opportunity to do just that.”
