Six Charged in District Court

A drug investigation by Sallisaw police and the sheriff’s office has resulted in drug-related charges against six Sallisaw residents in Sequoyah County District Court.

Sallisaw Police Chief Terry Franklin said the Sallisaw Police Department teamed up with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office on June 20 to serve two narcotics search warrants in Sallisaw.

“Together the two departments were able to take drugs off the street and put six people behind bars,” Franklin said. “As a result of the two search warrants, officers seized substances believed to be methamphetamines, marijuana, pills and drug paraphernalia.”

The six persons arrested were Derrick Allen Johnson, 22, Shaylan Morgan Barron, 23, Clarissa Jo Watkins, 43, Michael James Royal, 25, Sheila Dawn Couffer, 42, and Ronald Daniel, 54.

Johnson was charged on June 27 with two counts of possession of a controlled, dangerous substance, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a prescription, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $17,000 on June 27, and his next court date is on Associate District Judge Kyle Waters’ disposition docket on Aug. 10.

Barron was charged June 24 with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $6,000 on June 21, and her next court appearance is on Special District Judge Matt Orendorff’s disposition docket on July 29.

Watkins was charged June 24 with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a park or school and in the presence a minor child under age 12. Her bond was set at $21,000 on June 22, and her next court appearance will be on Waters’ Aug. 10 disposition docket.

Royal was charged June 24 with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a park or school and in the presence a minor child under age 12, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,000 on June24, and his next court appearance is on Waters’ disposition docket on Aug. 10.

Couffer was charged June 29 with a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $5,000 on June 29 and her next court appearance will be on Orendorff’s misdemeanor disposition docket on July 29.

Daniel was charged June 24 with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a park or school and in the presence a minor child under age 12, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 3 on Waters’ disposition docket.
