Four Suspects Arrested for Vandalism, Arson

Sallisaw Police Chief Terry Franklin reported four suspects have been arrested and charged with second-degree arson, malicious injury to property and larceny. The arrests solve a rash of criminal acts that have occurred over the last few weeks on Sallisaw’s south side.

Franklin reported, “Over the past two weeks officers have taken multiple reports of vandalism and arson. The bathrooms at Jay Reynolds Park have been vandalized multiple times. A vehicle in the parking lot had the windshield broken and the tires slashed.”

Franklin said the Sallisaw Fire Department responded last weekend to two vacant houses, located near each other, that were set on fire. One structure was a total loss but the fire at the second structure was extinguished. Sallisaw officers also responded to a call that a vehicle was shot with a BB gun.

As the result of the investigation two juvenile males, whose names were not released, and two adults – True Tharp and Chester Hoover III – were arrested.

Franklin said the four suspects were also questioned about other recent crimes.
