A Sallisaw man is facing felony charges of larceny of an automobile and third-degree burglary, arrest records reveal.
Shylow Shane Young, 36, was arrested Aug. 5 in Vian. The larceny charge is punishable by up to five years in the Department of Corrections and by a fine equal to three times the value of the property that was stolen, or by fine, imprisonment and restitution.
According to arrest records, on Aug. 5, a Sequoyah County sheriff’s deputy took a report of a stolen motor vehicle from an employee of the Sequoyah County Water Association (SCWA), saying that his work truck had been stolen from his residence.
Later that day the Sheriff’s Department was contacted by a female who stated that Young had come to her residence saying he had stolen a truck. A deputy made contact with the woman and her husband who confirmed that Young had been at their residence in the SCWA truck. The husband had asked Young to get off his property and told his wife to call the Sheriff’s Department. He also told the deputy that Young had a small pit bull puppy with him.
The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) then took a report from an individual who stated he had given a male a ride from a residence he was working at west of McKey Hill, to the McKey Church. They advised that the male was carrying a walking stick and had a small puppy with him. They also reported seeing a SCWA truck parked at the church.
The stolen work truck was then located at an area convenience store. Deputies responded to the scene and spoke with the store’s manager and asked her to review any surveillance footage. She told deputies she had seen the male in question -- and his brown and white pit bull puppy -- while she was at the back of the store. The man and the dog then walked south, leaving the property.
The SCWA employee looked over the truck and told deputies that he had a pair of jeans, a blue shirt, a pair of boots, a ball cap and a Motorola microphone cord that were missing from his truck. He was later shown a photo of the man who parked the truck and he said the man was wearing his missing clothes. The truck was turned back over to the SCWA.
On Aug. 6, a deputy made contact with Young at a residence in Vian. Young initially stayed silent under questioning but said he was “thinking of going to Sallisaw today.” When asked why, he said he needed to speak to a bondsman. Young denied having any outstanding warrants, but when asked why he would need the bondsman, Young said, “I’ve done some things.”
The owner of the Vian residence told the deputy that Young did not live there, but stayed once in a while. When asked if Young had a bedroom at the residence, the woman said he did not. The homeowner gave permission to search the home.
In the home’s master bedroom deputies discovered a pair of boots next to the bed, a pair of jeans and a shirt under the bed that were identified as those missing from the truck.
Young was then arrested and transported to the Sequoyah County Jail.
