Cornhole Tournament to Help Firefighters Fill the Boot

A cornhole tournament fundraiser will be held Sept. 5 in conjunction with the Sallisaw Fire Department’s annual “Fill the Boot” campaign.

The tournament will be in the parking lot east of Stanley W. Tubbs Memorial Library and will begin with sign-ups from 1-2 p.m. and the fun will officially begin at 2:15 p.m. The tournament, designed as a doubles event, will give 50 percent of its profits to the Fill the Boot campaign and the rest of the money raised will go to the players themselves, said Bryan Caviness, founder of the Black Diamond Baggers. A $40 entry fee is required for each team.

The Black Diamond Baggers, is a group that specializes in holding similar events throughout the region.

Caviness said he started the organization about a year ago and the group was modeled after a similar team in Poteau. The group’s first tournament was held at Shadee Oaks restaurant in Sallisaw, Caviness said, and he just “ran from there.”

Businesses or other agencies can benefit by scheduling one of these fundraising tournaments, Caviness said, and it’s a fun way to raise money. “Every time we do a tournament it gets bigger and bigger,” he said.

To schedule your own tournament or to sign up for the Fill the Boot tournament, contact Caviness at (918) 525-2625 or email blackdiamondbaggers@gmail.com.
