The Sallisaw NOW Coalition is sponsoring a class on touchless Narcan training Monday, Aug. 31, which is international overdose awareness day.
The event will be held at the coalition’s parking lot, 101 N. Wheeler Ave., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be sponsored by Sequoyah County Prevention, Training and Recovery.
The group’s mission is to equip all members of the community as first-responders in the event of an opioid overdose.
Narcan (Naloxone) is an opioid overdose reversal medication that has saved thousands of lives since it was introduced.
Sequoyah County has the 11th-highest opioid overdose death rate in the state of Oklahoma and about 34 Oklahomans die every month from unintentional prescription opioid overdose.
