Carl Albert State College officials have decided to move the annual Vike Hike virtual this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
With more than a decade of Vike Hike events completed, organizers said it was not an easy decision to go virtual. Participants plan, train, fuel and have fun at this event each year, factors that delayed CASC’s decision to make the best move possible for all parties involved, with high hopes of still running together in a traditional format in 2020.
“The current climate has made safety, while running together, more than we can promise at this time and we want to give all of our runners the opportunity to plan and properly train for the virtual event,” event coordinator Hali Repass said. “Therefore, the Vike Hike half-marathon and 5K will take place virtually for 2020.”
Participants who have previously registered don’t need to send any additional paperwork at this time. Details regarding the submission data of your completed event are below.
1) Run your distance
2) Record your data
3) Email your data to hrepass@carlalbert.edu
4) Drive through to pick up your packet at CASC’s Poteau campus on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5-8 p.m. or it will be mailed to you by the first week of December if you are unable to use the drive-through packet pickup.
Registration for the event is open on runsignup.com. Non-PACE registration is $25 for the 5K, $50 for the half-marathon and $75 for the brick. PACE members will sign up through the Choctaw Nation and should look for an email from them.
Repass said all participants will receive a VH shirt and finisher’s medal. All VIKE BRICK participants will receive two shirts, two medals and a Viking Brick.
