A bridge project in Sequoyah County is getting closer to being finished, District 2 County Commissioner Steve Carter said Tuesday.
“We’ve been working on this project since 2005,” Carter said, adding that the first T-beam, a 528-footer, was currently being installed for the bridge, which goes over Sallisaw Creek. “We are pretty excited to get this thing going,” Carter said.
Carter first started the application process for the bridge project funding 15 years ago and has worked since then to make the project a reality.

The $2.1 million project is a year behind schedule, Carter said, and, barring any unforeseen events, should be completed by the end of the year.
The bridge project is located northwest of Sallisaw at the old low water slab crossing.
