Drowning Near Kerr Lock and Dam


Search and rescue crews are working to retrieve the body of a man believed to have drowned in the Arkansas River near Kerr Lock and Dam on Highway 59 South of Sallisaw. 

Steve Rutherford, Sequoyah County Emergency Director, stated that the drowning occurred on the Leflore County side of the river.

The man reportedly was fishing when he fell from the bank. It's believed that the victim is from Fort Smith but that is not confirmed at this time.

There are no other details currently available but we will bring you more as the story develops.
