Gregory Travis Cullum, 29, was arrested after an investigation into a Sept. 17 report of a burglary at a home at 457093 Highway 64.
When Sequoyah County deputies responded to the call, the homeowner, Aaron Stewart, told them his house had been broken into between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 17.
After opening a window on the north side of the house, Stewart said the culprit entered the home, knocking several items into the kitchen sink as he climbed in. Stewart reported that a .25-caliber pistol valued at $225 was taken, as well as a Matco flashlight valued at $175. The thief also took $60 in cash, he said.
Stewart told police the suspect also tried to break into his safe, but was unable to open it.
Deputies brought in Cullum, who was in jail on another charge, for an interview after fingerprints left at the residence matched his.
Cullum told deputies he was driving around with Robert Lee Myers, also known as “Lil’ Rob.” Myers allegedly told Cullum he was going to get into Stewart’s house, so Cullum pulled into the home’s driveway.
Cullum reportedly tried and failed to open one window, but gained entry through the kitchen window. Cullum said he and Myers then got back in the car and drove down the road a little way before parking. The men then exited the vehicle and walked through woods to the residence.
“Lil’ Rob” allegedly was inside the home for about 30 minutes while Cullum stayed outside. When Myers exited the home, he and Cullum left the area, turning north off Highway 64 onto a dead-end dirt road. They turned around and traveled back toward the highway. As they were driving, Cullum said, Myers held up a small pistol. Cullum told Myers that he was “not supposed to be around guns, man,” so Myers threw the pistol out the car’s window. Cullum said he then took “Lil’ Rob” home.
Cullum told deputies he saw Myers carrying cash and a Ka-Bar knife that had been stolen from the residence.
Cullum admitted to helping Myers enter the residence and being a lookout during the crime. He was able to lead deputies to the pistol thrown from the car.
The burglary charge, a felony, is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
