Muldrow Teen Assaults Grandfather

A Muldrow teen was arrested Sept. 11 after allegedly assaulting his grandfather.

Records show that Trevor Scott McGuire, 19, was charged with aggravated assault and battery and malicious injury to property, both felonies.

A Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy responding to the incident at a rural Muldrow home owned by Charles Barnett learned that the suspect had already left the scene in a blue Volkswagen headed for the Roland area.

Barnett said his grandson began attacking him after the older man discussed his plan to sell the home. An enraged McGuire allegedly punched and struck the man several times, leaving Barnett with bruises. A cut on Barnett’s chin was reportedly caused when McGuire stuck his fingers down the man’s throat in an attempt to choke him.

A closer inspection at the home revealed multiple broken-out windows and areas where Barnett said his grandson had put large holes in the sheetrock.

When he was arrested, McGuire told police he would never assault his grandfather but had just become angry with the older man for wanting to sell the home. He admitted causing the damage to the home, saying that he had anger issues.

McGuire was released on $4,500 bond. His next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 30.

The aggravated assault charge carries a punishment of up to five years in the State Penitentiary or up to one year in the county jail, a fine of up to $500 or both.

The malicious injury to property charge is punishable by imprisonment in the penitentiary for up to two years, a fine up to $1,000 or both.
