A Sallisaw woman is homeless after a Sunday night fire destroyed her home.
Sallisaw Fire Department Chief Anthony Armstrong said the department was called at 8:49 p.m. Sunday to the home at 1402 S Dogwood. Firefighters were able to douse the blaze within 10 minutes, Armstrong said, but the department stayed on the scene until about 10 p.m. battling hotspots.
The home was a total loss, Armstrong said. The fire is being considered accidental. The homeowner, Pam Brown, reportedly fell asleep with a candle burning and was awakened by popping and cracking sounds.
Armstrong said the Red Cross is assisting Brown, who lost everything. She stayed the night with a neighbor, he said.
