The City of Sallisaw has scheduled a free Chunk Your Junk day, giving residents another opportunity to get rid of their unwanted junk and clutter.
Chunk Your Junk will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the city’s Electric Department, 213 W Quesenberry. Dumpsters will be set up west of the department, just north of the railroad tracks off North Elm Street.
The event is only for residential customers within Sallisaw city limits and residents are asked to bring a copy of their electric bill to verify their address.
Customers are responsible for unloading their refuse into the Dumpsters, but city personnel will be on hand to supervise all unloading.
Residents are asked to adhere to the following rules:
· All materials must originate from residential property
· All items must be easily handled. No heavy items that require equipment to unload are allowed, nor are any items requiring shovels to unload
· Items must fit in a normal half-ton truck bed with no side rails. Trailers up to 16 feet long (with no side rails) are also be allowed
· ALL LOADS ARE SUBJECT TO BEING TURNED AWAY BASED ON CONTENTS
· Customers are asked to bag items as much as possible and to separate all metal items
· Types of items accepted: Bagged leaves, small plants, metal, wood/lumber, landscaping materials, furniture, bedding, cans, bundled cardboard, small appliances (only if coolant/refrigerant has been removed)
Items not accepted:
· No brush, construction debris, shingles or commercial trash
· No hazardous waste or free-flowing liquids, no batteries, paint or oil, cooking oil, fuel, pesticides, fertilizers, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals or butane/propane tanks
· No appliances with coolant/refrigerant systems still connected; and
· No tires
