Crash Leaves Two Women Injured

A traffic accident on U.S. Highway 64 left two women injured, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report.

At about 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, a 2017 Dodge Journey driven by Laura Callahan, 81, of Greenwood, Ark., was eastbound on Highway 64, 2.5 miles east of Sallisaw, and attempted to make a left turn onto a county road in front of a Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Amanda Kelly, 37, of Sallisaw.

Callahan’s vehicle spun out when it struck Kelly and was struck by a 2005 Chrysler Sebring driven by Keith Mings, 47, of Sallisaw.

Callahan was transported by Pafford Emergency Medical Services to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, where she was admitted in critical condition with leg and trunk and internal injuries.

Callahan’s passenger, Sarah Neal, 35, of Muldrow was also transported to Mercy Hospital and was admitted in stable condition with internal trunk injuries.

Kelly, who was driving the Caravan, and Mings were not injured in the accident. Two children in Kelly’s vehicle were also uninjured.

The police report shows that road conditions were clear at the time of the crash and everyone involved was wearing seat belts. The cause of the collision was the improper use of a left turn, according to the statement.
