An eight-minute escape from the Sallisaw jail has resulted in a felony charge against a Sallisaw man.
Coday Ray Pruitt, 29, was charged Aug. 1 in district court with escape from arrest or detention.
According to the officer’s report filed with the charges, Pruitt, already housed in the city’s jail, was removed from the jail so the jail camera could be worked on. When in the booking area, Pruitt noticed a door to the outside did not close correctly and he darted out when the jailer was booking another inmate.
However, Sallisaw officers knew where Pruitt had been staying and found him at that household, shaving his head. He was taken into custody without incident.
His escape lasted an estimated eight minutes, the officer reported.
Pruitt’s bond was set at $10,000 and he remains in jail. The crime is punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and up to two years imprisonment.
