Sallisaw Officials Make It Illegal to Text and Drive

The Sallisaw Board of City Commissioners recently made it illegal to text and drive with Ordinance 2015-09.

The ordinance follows the new Oklahoma State Law that went into effect Nov. 1. Under the new state law it is illegal to read or manually compose or send a text message while driving a moving vehicle. The ban also includes instant messages, emails, photos or video.

The fine for violating the law is $100.

A provision of the ordinance does allow texting by emergency personnel.
