Authorities Searching for Escapee Charged with Murder


Authorities are searching for a 25-year-old Park Hill man, accused of first-degree murder, who escaped from the Muskogee County Jail Sunday night.

Paul Dean Newberry and another inmate escaped at about 10:25 p.m. Sunday by breaking a security window, climbing onto a roof, and then jumping to the ground. The other inmate was quickly captured.

Newberry is accused of shooting Charley Kirk, 88, a Keys rancher, during a burglary. He faces first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and robbery with a firearm charges.

Newberry was last seen wearing a dark, long-sleeved sweatshirt and gray shorts. If seen contact the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office at 918-687-0202 or call 9-1-1.
