Two Leflore County residents were victims of drowning on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report and local authorities the victims were father and daughter, Billie Carpenter, 76, and Auraha Pipkins, 43. Both were residents of Cameron.
Pipkins reportedly pulled up to a pond on private property and her father exited the 2016 Jeep Wrangler she was driving. The vehicle is believed to have slipped out of gear causing it to drive into the water.
Authorities say that Carpenter entered the water to rescue his daughter, went under and never resurfaced.
The drowning occurred on private property 4.5 miles west and 2.5 miles south of Pocola in Lefore County.
Recovery of both victims was made by the OHP dive team approximately 25 feet off the bank in approximately 10-12 feet of water.
