Muldrow Teacher Dies in Thanksgiving Day Car Accident


A single vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 4:08 p.m. Thursday on US Highway 64 1.2 miles west of Muldrow left a beloved Muldrow teacher dead from injuries sustained.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report Sherry Cawhorn Christopher, 68, of Roland was driving a 2004 Oldsmobile SUV eastbound on US 64 when the vehicle departed the left side of the roadway, over-corrected to the right and came back on the roadway. The vehicle then departed the right side of the roadway and overturned ejecting Christopher.

Christopher was pronounced deceased at Sparks Hospital in Ft Smith from injuries sustained in the collision.

A passenger in the vehicle, Thomas Christopher, 66, of Roland was treated and released from Sparks Hospital.

The OHP report lists the cause of the accident as inattention/unknown. Seatbelts were not in use. 

Christopher was a high school science teacher at Muldrow High School. She was named Muldrow High School Site Teacher of the Year in March of the year.
