The free Sallisaw community Thanksgiving dinner, sponsored KiBois Community Action Foundation, will be held on Nov. 21 this year at the Sallisaw Middle School cafeteria.
Serving will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and free KATS bus rides will be available to those in Sallisaw city limits who need transportation. Call 918-776-0848 to arrange a ride.
The Thanksgiving dinner is an all-volunteer project, said Melissa Lowe of the foundation.
The menu includes turkey, dressing, and all the fixings and is all donated or purchased with donated funds.
The food is cooked and prepared by the cafeteria workers at the Sallisaw Middle School, who actually have the week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Lowe said, “The cafeteria workers come in on their day off to prepare the meal. They volunteer to do the cooking.”
Other volunteers will do the serving.
Lowe said in past years about 400 have been served at the free dinners, but this year the planners are hoping for 600.
“We have enough food to feed that many,” Lowe said.
Anyone who would like to make a donation for the dinner may do so by dropping the donation off at the foundation office at 1206 W. Redwood in Sallisaw, or by mailing the donation to the same address.
The meals are for dine-in only, not carry-out.
