A 29-year-old Fort Smith woman was charged Aug. 5 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, with identity theft, after she gave a Roland police officer her sister’s name during a traffic stop.
Sarah Coughran was charged with identity theft, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of driving with license cancelled, suspended or revoked.
The suspect’s sister, according to the police report, went to the Roland Police Department after she received a notice that a warrant was to be issued for her arrest after she failed to show up for a court date. The court date was for a traffic citation issued on June 25.
The sister, from Alma, Ark., then identified her sister from the police car dash cam video filmed during the June 25 traffic stop. The citation for the sister was dropped, and a felony warrant for Coughran was issued Aug. 5. The warrant has a $5,000 bond.
