Schools Announce Tentative Graduation Plans

Area schools have announced tentative plans to hold traditional graduation ceremonies amid the coronavirus pandemic. The dates are subject to guidelines from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and may have to be cancelled and/or rescheduled.

Sallisaw Public Schools has set a tentative graduation date for 9 a.m. June 27 at the football field. A virtual graduation video has also been prepared and will be streamed by the school on their Sallisaw High School Facebook page as well as on The Mix 105.1 Facebook page. The graduation video will also be broadcast on MixTV Channel 19. The video will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 15.

Sallisaw senior parents have organized a parade of seniors to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday. Students will meet at Liberty Elementary to line up their vehicles. The parade will begin at Libery Elementary, travel north on Dogwood to Cherokee Ave, then proceed through Sallisaw to JT Stites. The students will turn south on JT Stites and proceed to the high school. Everyone is urged to practice safe procedures and proper CDC protocols while watching the parade.

In Roland, graduation is tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20. From 8-10 p.m. on Friday, May 15, the school will have its stadium lights turned on to honor and commemorate the Roland Senior Class of 2020. School officials want to remind everyone that the facilities are closed. If you drive by, please remain in your vehicles.

Vian Public Schools has set a tentative date of June 13 at 8 p.m. to honor their graduates. "We have set this date in an effort to be able to gather for a traditional ceremony. However, graduation ceremonies will observe any up-to-date guidelines given by the CDC. In addition, this plan is contingent upon COVID-19 bans being lifted,” Victor Salcedo, superintendent stated.

In Gore, a formal graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13, in the Event Center.

Central Public School has rescheduled graduation ceremonies for Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. “In the event that we are unable to hold a traditional graduation ceremony, we are in the process of gathering information for a virtual graduation. Seniors will be notified about the virtual graduation procedures in the near future,” Central Superintendent Larry Henson stated.

Gans has set a tentative date for a graduation ceremony of July 17 at 7 p.m. to be held at the football field.

Muldrow is tentatively set to have a graduation ceremony on June 26 at 8 p.m. at the football field. School officials are working on a date and location for a Baccalaureate service.
