The Sallisaw Police Department is investigating a recent break-in at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sequoyah County, located in Sallisaw, as well as an attempted break-in of the club that happened over the weekend.
The original break-in and vandalism of the building was discovered May 7, club President Lindsie Dyer said this week.
After the break-in, Dyer said, the staff put up cameras at the club. The camera revealed that the thief allegedly came back over the weekend but was unable to get in the door. He reportedly used a brick to try and break out a window, but it didn’t break.
Dyer said the video footage was turned over to the police department.
Sallisaw Police Chief Terry Franklin stated Wednesday that the department is investigating the incidents. Several suspects have been identified as a result of the investigation, Franklins said. Several of the items stolen in the break-in were discovered at a residence in Sallisaw. Those items have been returned to the club, according to Franklin.
"This is an active and ongoing investigation. We anticipate charges to be filed in the near future," Franklin said.
Donations are still being accepted to help replace stolen and damaged items, Dyer said. The donations don’t need to be new; gently used is fine. Cash donations are also welcome. To donate, call (918) 775-4659 after 8 a.m. Monday through Friday.
