Several horse barns at Blue Ribbon Downs
were damaged during storms Friday afternoon.
Sequoyah County residents are getting back to normal after a strong thunderstorm Friday afternoon brought flooding rains and damaging winds to the area.
Emergency Management Director Steve Rutherford said Monday that when Sallisaw streets flooded as the storm came through, several people had to be pulled from their cars to safety. No injuries were reported, he said.
There were no tornadoes in the county, Rutherford said, but there was a confirmed twister in Muskogee County.
Rutherford said the gauge at the Emergency Management office shows Sallisaw received 4.09 inches of rain during the storm.
“We were very fortunate we didn’t have anyone injured,” Rutherford said.
Several barns at Blue Ribbon Downs lost their roofs and electricity poles were brought down but there were no injuries at the track, Rutherford said.
