City of Sallisaw Issues Proclamation Concerning COVID-19


On Tuesday, March 17 Ernie Martens, Mayor the City of Sallisaw, declared an Emergency for the City of Sallisaw related to the COVID--19 pandemic.

The City of Sallisaw stresses this is not being done to cause panic or any additional worry. This measure is being taken as a precaution for anything unforeseen that may arise in the future due to COVID-19. 

"We are following the steps recommended at the Federal and State levels. We continue to monitor the latest updates and will do our very best to keep our citizens informed," stated Martens.

“We encourage all citizens to educate themselves on COVID-19 and to practice good hygiene and social distancing as recommended by the CDC,” stated Martens, Sallisaw Mayor, “I want to stress this is strictly a precautionary action. We intend to continue working with local, state and federal officials, as well as all health professionals to ensure the safety of our community. The health and safety of our community remain at the forefront of our efforts. Working together as a community and as a nation of resilient and unique individuals, we can help slow the spread of this virus.”
