A two-boat accident on Lake Tenkiller sent two to the hospital with head injuries on Saturday, July 21 at 10:58 p.m.
An Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division Trooper reported that Jeffrey D. Lawrence, 51, of Tulsa was driving a 2006 Fourwinns deck boat with 5 passengers on board when he was struck by a second boat.
The second boat, a 1984 Webcraft, was driven by Michael J. Vanwyk, 68, of Vian,
Lawrence was traveling northeast on Tenkiller when his boat was struck near the rear by Vanwyk's vessel which was also traveling northeast, according to the OHP report.
Lawrence and his passengers were reportedly uninjured but Vanwyk and his passenger, Linda Vanwyk, 67, were both admitted to Northeastern Health Systems Hospital in Tahlequah with head injuries.
The report noted that although flotation devices were on board, none were in use at the time of the accident.
The cause of the collision was listed as alcohol usage with Lawrence's condition's listed as normal and Vanwyk's listed as ability impaired.
