Sallisaw Home Invasion Suspect In Custody

The suspect wanted in connection with a home invasion and robbery that occurred in Sallisaw on July 4 has been identified and taken into custody.

John R. Broomfield Jr., 39, of Hartman, Arkansas was arrested Thursday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. in Russellville, Arkansas, according to Capt. Jeff Murray of the Sallisaw Police Dept. 

Broomfield gained entry into the apartment of an elderly resident at Tsa La Ghi apartments and then robbed the resident of his wallet and cell phone on the evening of July 4. He then used the victim's credit card at both the Van Buren and Alma Walmart locations where police obtained surveillance photographs of him which helped lead to Broomfield being identified.

Broomfield has served time in prison previously and has previous convictions of armed robbery. He is being held in the Pope County Jail while awaiting extradition back to Sequoyah County.
