No One Injured in Thursday Bus Accident

No injuries were reported as the result of a school bus and vehicle crash at about 3:49 p.m. Thursday east of Sallisaw.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported a 17-year-old male driver was traveling east in a 2001 Chevrolet truck and was behind a 2005 Bluebird school bus driven by Debra Newenhouse, 61, of Sallisaw, on U.S. Highway 64.

When the bus attempted to turn north on Central High Road, the teenager’s truck struck the bus in the rear. The cause of the crash is listed as inattentive driving.

The OHP does not release the names of juveniles involved in vehicle crashes.

The OHP reported there were three students on the bus, two males and one female. Neither the juveniles nor the bus driver were injured, the OHP reported.
