Sallisaw police are seeking a female suspect in a theft case.
Capt. Jeff Murray said a vehicle parked at Shadow Creek Golf Course on Monday was broken into between the hours of 1:30 and 3 p.m. The owner received a call from the credit card company that a credit card was being used at Walmart.
“We got the call at 3 p.m. and sent officers out,” Murray said.
The owner said two purses were stolen from the vehicle.
At Walmart the officers were able to obtain a video showing the suspect using the credit card to buy a $500 gift card. The same credit card was used in an Alma Walmart later the same day to buy another gift card, Murray said.
Because of the similar use of the credit card, Sallisaw police have contacted other police departments about the credit card theft, and on Thursday morning were receiving calls back.
Murray said, “We’ve had a similar incident like this in the past. It may be the same suspect or same MO. The incidents are similar – buying a gift card for $500 – so we think there may be a connection.
“This may be a wide spread deal,” Murray said, because of similar thefts in northwest Arkansas
“It’s either the same person or a group,” Murray said. “Witnesses report seeing the same woman or seeing her and three other women.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sallisaw Police Department with that information.
