State Farm Insurance Is Chamber Member of the Month

Shannon and Cheryl Vann’s State Farm Insurance in Sallisaw was named the Chamber Member of the Month for December at the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce Membership Luncheon at noon Wednesday.

Above, Darren Girdner, past chamber president, left, presents the award to Shannon Vann.

Girdner spoke about the Vann Agency when presenting the award. He noted Shannon Vann was appointed as an agent for State Farm Insurance in Sallisaw on March 1, 1997. Prior to his appointment, he had started his career in insurance in December of 1991 as a claim representative for State Farm in Lawton.

After completing agency training in 1996, Shannon was selected to replace Ken Vann, his father, upon his retirement after serving as a State Farm Insurance agent in Sallisaw for 30 years.

Girdner said, “The mission of State Farm is to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected, and realize their dreams. Shannon and his licensed team members work hard to help fulfill this mission. The success they have had is a direct result of their efforts in taking care of customer’s needs. They are led by Shannon’s wife, Cheryl Vann, and Candace Emerson and Ashley Cox.

“They believe whole heartedly that you can build a stronger business by helping build a stronger community,” Girdner said.

Shannon Vann is also the president of the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce.

Judy Martens, the chamber executive director, announced the winners of the Storefront Decorating Contest. The top three in two categories received trophies.

The top three in the Small Market category are Green Leaf Properties, first; The Old Sallisaw High School Park, second; and the Sequoyah County Times, third.

The top three in the Large Market category are Sallisaw Police Department, first; National Bank Express Point Branch, second; and Cherokee Nation Career Services.

The lunch was catered by Cazadores Mexican Restaurant in Sallisaw and was held at First United Methodist Church. Entertainment was by a children’s choral group from Liberty Elementary School who performed selections from their Christmas program.
