The Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce will hold a Political Forum featuring candidates for national, state and local office on Oct.3.

The forum will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the People Inc. Conference Center.

Judy Martens, the chamber executive director, said the following candidates, as of Sept. 22, said they plan to attend. Others may also respond and will be announced here as they accept the invitation.

-U.S. Senate:

Robert Murphy - Libertarian

Sean Braddy - Independent

-U.S. Representative, Dist. 2:

Joshua Harris-Till - Democrat

John McCarthy - Independent

-State Representative, Dist. 2:

Tom Stites - Democrat

-State Representative, Dist. 15:

Martens said, “As part of the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce Program of Work, the Legislative Committee is dedicated to educating not only our members, but the general public on all candidates running for public office. We will be inviting all candidates running for offices that affect not only Sallisaw but all of Sequoyah County. This will include local, county, state and national offices in which candidates have filed for office.”

Martens said the candidates who attend will be given a chance to tell the audience about themselves, their families, their background and what makes them the best person for the position they are hoping to fill.

Each candidate will then be asked a series of questions by an impartial moderator. The questions will deal directly with their desired office.

Each candidate will also be given a chance to make closing remarks.

The Forum will be broadcast over The Mix 105.1 radio and MixTV Channel 19 on Diamond Net so all residents will have the opportunity to “meet the candidates” in their own homes.
