Gore Woman Charged with Attacking Police Officer

A Gore woman entered a not guilty plea June 17 to a felony charge of assault and battery on a police officer.

Cindy May Lambert, 50, was also charged with disturbing the peace, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in prison, a fine of up to $100 or both. She faces up to five years in prison on the assault charge.

On June 9, a Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the Spirit Mart on Highway 64 after being advised that a female was screaming inside the store and was refusing to answer questions.

A store clerk told the deputy the woman had just left the store walking west on 64. She said the woman was paranoid and refused assistance. The deputy later found the woman, who would not obey commands or identify herself. She kept walking toward traffic every time the deputy moved closer to her.

The deputy then had a Roland police officer and another sheriff’s deputy assist him by blocking traffic.

The woman had uncontrollable body movements and her arms were folded toward her chest. She kept chewing on the sides of her mouth, which the deputy recognized as signs of possible drug use.

The deputy was finally able to identify the woman as Lambert. She was reluctant to tell the officer anything about herself or her situation. All she would say is that she wanted a ride to her brother’s residence, but she didn’t know where it was.

Lambert refused treatment by emergency services and began trying to leave, screaming at the deputy when he wouldn’t let her go. She was then detained for her own safety.

The deputy was able to get the brother’s address, which dispatch advised him needed extra patrols for high drug activity. While traveling to the brother’s home, Lambert began kicking the patrol car and trying to spit through the cage and yelling that her arm was broken.

With that, the deputy pulled into a business parking lot to check on Lambert. She was asked to calm down, but instead she tried to kick the officers, striking a deputy several times.
