CASC Establishes Honorable Dennis M. Sprouse Recovery Scholarship

Carl Albert State College has announced the establishment of The Honorable Dennis M. Sprouse Recovery Scholarship by the Sequoyah County Drug Court. This scholarship honors Judge Sprouse, retired Sequoyah County Associate District Judge, for his outstanding support, dedication, and commitment to the Sequoyah County Drug Court program. 

Designed as a diversion from prison, the Sequoyah County Drug Court program provides a life-changing opportunity to individuals with substance abuse issues to recover in the community through an intensive court-supervised, comprehensive treatment program. 

Sprouse firmly believes that education opens doors and changes lives. Growing up in a family of educators, education was a priority to Sprouse. He graduated from Coalgate High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa and earned his law degree from the University of Tulsa in 1977. 

Sprouse began his law career as an attorney in Sallisaw in 1978 and was selected as Sequoyah County’s Special Judge in 1986. In 2010, he was elected as the Sequoyah County Associate Judge.

During his tenure as judge, he was instrumental in the organization and the success of the Sequoyah County Drug Court program. Since the program’s inception in 1998, Sprouse has played a vital role in recovery for numerous individuals. His effective approach to working with individuals with substance abuse issues focuses on education, problem-solving, support, and accountability. 

The Honorable Dennis M. Sprouse Recovery Scholarship will be awarded to a recovering addict or a child of an addicted parent furthering their education at the CASC Sallisaw Campus.
