Gore Man Injured in Thursday Motorcycle Accident


A Gore man was injured in a Thursday afternoon motorcycle accident.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report, the accident occurred 12 miles south of Tahlequah at 3:19 p.m.

The report states that Charles Campbell, 79, of Welling was driving a 2004 Buick Rendezvous southbound on SH 82  one-half mile south of County Rd. 888 when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic in an attempt to turn left onto a private drive.

Campbell was struck by Mitchell Young, 56, of Gore who was northbound on a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle. 

Young was transported by Cherokee Nation EMS to Cookson Fire Department and then transported by First Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was admitted in stable condition with head, trunk internal, and leg injuries.

Campbell was not injured in the collision.

The cause of the collision was listed as improper left turn in front of Oncoming Traffic

The OHP was assisted at the scene by the Cherokee Nation EMS, First Flight and the Cookson Fire Dept.
