In the wake of all the flooding and the water receding, rural residents with water wells could have contamination due to the flood waters.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality recommends that residents do not drink the water from their wells if they have been submerged in flood water until the well is disinfected and the well water has tested safe.
The ODEQ offers free testing of private wells impacted by the flooding and also offers instructions for disinfecting the wells at www.deq.state.ok.
The free testing is available until July 15.
