Four area students were recently named recipients of the Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative Scholarship.
This year’s recipients were Honey Vang of Sallisaw High School, daughter of Ying and Mayko Vang; Lyric Powell of Stigler High School, daughter of Candice Chesney and Matthew Powell; ShyAnn Leigh Bonham of Gore High School, daughter of Greg and Melissa Bonham; and Joshua R. Osburn, who is homeschooled, son of Craig and Katie Osburn.
Each student received a $500 scholarship from the scholarship program, a way for Cookson Hills Electric to support the educational goals of area youth who are college-bound from the CHEC service area.
CHEC employees established the scholarship program in 1997. The scholarships are funded solely by employee fundraisers and donations.
To be considered for this scholarship, students must submit an application and two letters of recommendation. Students must plan to attend a state accredited school or technical school offering an associate or bachelor degree. The program is open to any graduating senior whose parents or guardians are members of CHEC.
