Members of the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce are gearing up for the 2019 Diamond Daze Festival, set for June 12-15 at the Sallisaw High School campus.
This annual family event includes arts & crafts, pony rides, helicopter rides, a 5K run, high steaks grilling contest, car show, talent show, food vendors, games and rides on the carnival midway and entertainment on the Diamond Daze Stage.
The four-day festival begins with Family Fun Nights on Wednesday and Thursday at the carnival from 6 to 10 p.m. Both nights are armband nights, where you can ride all the rides for one low price. Armbands are now available at the chamber office for $25 each; if you wait to purchase them on the festival grounds, they will be $30 each. Parking is free Wednesday and Thursday.
Friday night will feature music at 7:30 p.m. by Reckless Stones and Tacie & the Sunshine Band; gates open at 5 p.m. On Friday, you must have tickets to ride carnival rides from 6 to 10 p.m.
A new addition to Diamond Daze this year is the “Diamond Daze Got Talent” talent show. Taking place at 9 a.m. Saturday, the all-ages talent contest will feature some of the area’s best talent. Entry fee is $25; deadline to enter is June 5. Cash prizes will be awarded for first through third place; contact the chamber for entry information or to get registered.
On Saturday night one of Christian music’s hottest bands, Tenth Avenue North, will close out the festival. The band’s hits include, “No Man is an Island,” “Worn” and “By Your Side.” Gates open at 5 p.m.; Tenth Avenue North takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.
There is a $5 parking fee for Friday and Saturday. Tickets for Saturday’s concert are $15 in advance; $20 at the door. Tickets are available at www.sallisawchamber.com.
Saturday afternoon is another armband time at the carnival from 1 to 5 p.m.; tickets will be required for the carnival from 5-11 p.m. Saturday.
Other events going on during the festival include a car show and High Steaks Rollin’ Contest.
The Diamond Daze Car Show, sponsored by Chandler Collision Center, will award cash prizes in over 30 classes with first and second place awards presented. Registration will be 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. The show will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with prizes awarded at 3 p.m.
Saturday’s High Steaks Rollin’ cookoff will heat up in both a steak and appetizer division. Entry fee is $140 for steak division and $25 for appetizer division. Chamber Director Marty Green said that people interested in competing can sign up at steakcookoffs.com.
Multiple prizes and ribbons will be awarded in the High Steaks Rollin’ contest including the 1st place prize of $1,000.
