Fire Damages Home North of Sallisaw

The Brushy and Sallisaw Fire Departments fought a house fire Friday north of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59. The home belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Long.

Steve Padgett, Sallisaw Assistant Fire Chief, said Sallisaw was dispatched at 11:49 a.m. to assist Brushy firefighters, and the two departments had the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

Padgett said the fire appeared to have started at the back of the house, in the living room, and then burned through the roof.

“It was lucky we got there quickly with the wind as strong as it is,” Padgett said. “The fire could have blown right through the structure.”

He said the home suffered extensive fire and smoke damage. It is believed the fire may have been caused by an electrical problem, and the state fire marshal has been called in to investigate.

No one was home at the time of the fire, Padgett said, and there were no injuries reported.
