School Auction Includes Old Middle School Items

Sallisaw Public School System is holding a surplus auction at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The auction will be at the Sallisaw Schools bus barn and will be conducted by Wright Way Auction.

Tommie Spear Middle School, Sallisaw’s old middle school, is to be torn down. The City of Sallisaw accepted the property from the school system, and has plans to tear down the old main building. The city plans to build a splash pad on the property and has already received a grant of $150,000 for the splash pad. City Manager Clayton Lucas told city commissioners that additional monies – grants, etc. – will be sought to build the splash pad.

A newer gym, on the property, is to be leased back to the school system for $50,000. The gym and the proposed splash pad are next door to the Sequoyah County Boys and Girls Club. The club is now in two of the newer buildings that once were the old middle school.

The auction includes many items from the old school, including gym equipment such as a score board and basketball goals.

Other items in the auction are cafeteria equipment, including a walk-in cooler and freezer, which are both described as “like new.” Also on the auction block are stainless tables, sinks, food warmers, a hanging rack, prep tables, serving trays, an ice cream machine, beverage air freezer, deep fryer, meat slicer, warmers, cold bars, a tilt skillet, hot bar, and 20 fold-up cafeteria tables.

A large smoker on wheels will be up for auction, along with numerous tools, such as a drill press, bandsaws, wood lathes, table saw, jointers, and a welder, a bench grinder and angle grinders.

Four school buses will be auctioned, along with a half-ton pickup truck, an enclosed trailer, numerous tires, a Ditch Witch, a generator on trailer, a parking lot sweeper, a paint machine, four power washers, a push mower and a Weedeater.

Other items include diesel engines, a backhoe bucket, a compressor tank, storage boxes, Singer sewing machines, ceiling tiles, a golf simulation hitting station, a pile of scrap metal, an old guard shack with windows, a 16-foot flatbed trailer, a stock rack, chain link fence, chair and desks, oak show cases, 11 sets of school lockers, the Tommie Spear building entrance sign, and many other items too numerous to mention.
