21-Year-old Faces Drug Charges


A 21-year-old Sallisaw man was charged June 1 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

John Mark Hamilton III is free on a $16,000 bond after his arrest on May 27 by Sallisaw police.

According to the officer’s report filed with the charges, the officer went to a home on South Elm Street seeking another male on an arrest warrant. While arresting the other person, the officer reports he notice the odor of marijuana in the home.

Hamilton, according to the report, gave the police officer permission to search the residence. The search uncovered two pieces of burnt aluminum foil containing white squares. According to the report, Hamilton told the officer the substance was LSD. The officer also found four additional white squares, a glass jar with a green, leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana, a black container with a green, leafy substance, a black zipper pouch containing $765, and a set of digital scales.

Hamilton was arrested and booked into the Sequoyah County jail.
