Bodies Sent to ME's Office; Investigation Continues

The bodies of a mother and her two adult sons have been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Tulsa and the Muskogee Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into what is believed to be two murders and a suicide. The bodies were found Saturday morning in the home of Rebecca Brown-Smith, 48. Investigators believe Smith committed suicide after killing her two sons while they slept. They are Levi Brown, 25, and Garrett Brown, 24. Capt. Richard Slader, who is in charge of investigations for the Muskogee Sheriff's Office, said Monday that Smith apparently shot her sons while they slept early Saturday, then turned the same .22-caliber rifle upon herself. She did leave a note, but investigators did not reveal what the note said. The sheriff's office was contacted at about 7:40 a.m. Saturday after Smith called her brother and told him she was going to commit suicide. When deputies arrived and looked through a window, it was reported they saw enough to gain entry into the home. Slader said the Smith home is five to six miles east of Warner, and about the same distance west of Webbers Falls. Slader said it has not been confirmed that Smith suffered from mental illness. He said the investigation is ongoing. "We still have a couple of people we want to talk to," he said. Slader said those still to be questioned are members of Smith's family.
