Two Killed in Muskogee County Crash

A Fort Gibson man and a Haskell woman are dead following a two-vehicle crash at 10:37 p.m. Monday on State Highway 16, about 10 miles west of Muskogee. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Joseph Phillip Sabella II, 48, of Fort Gibson was driving his 2000 Ford Windstar van east when, for an unknown reason, he went left of center and struck a 1997 Toyota driven by Carol Mattheis Gonzalez, 68, of Haskell. The OHP reported Sabella was thrown about 18 feet from his vehicle, and Gonzalez had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Haskell Fire Department. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The OHP reported Sabella had the odor of alcohol on his person. Gonzalez was wearing his seat belt and Sabella was not, the OHP reported. The airbags in both vehicles did deploy. Two Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Two motorcycle riders were hospitalized following a crash at about 10:28 pm Monday on U.S. Highway 59, about 1.6 miles south of Sallisaw. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Shawn Chambers, 42, of Muldrow and Craig Silvay, 48, of Fort Smith were both hospitalized following the wreck. Chambers was transported by Pafford EMS to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith and admitted with trunk and internal injuries. He was listed in stable condition. Silvay was transported by Tulsa Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and admitted with arm, leg, head and internal and external injuries. He was also listed in stable condition. The OHP reported Chambers was riding a 1996 Harley Davidson north when he laid the motorcycle over on its side. The OHP reported unsafe speed was the cause of the crash. Silvay, who was riding directly behind Chambers, collided with Chambers. The OHP reported Silvay had the odor of alcohol on him. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director

Two Injured in Two Wrecks in Cherokee County

Oklahoma Highway and Lake Patrol troopers had a busy weekend in the area, and investigated two collisions in Cherokee County, a water craft collision on the Arkansas River in Sequoyah County and a wreck on Interstate 40, about one mile west of Webbers Falls.

In Cherokee County, one man was injured after losing control of his motorcycle at about 2:49 p.m. Friday on a county road one mile east and three miles south of Tahlequah. The OHP reported Thomas Caldwell, 55, of Welling was driving south of Tahlequah when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of his 2001 Kawasaki, causing the vehicle to wobble and fall over. Caldwell was transported by Air Evac to St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa with head injuries. He was listed in stable condition. The wreck was still under investigation at the time the report was released. Caldwell was not wearing a helmet, according to the report.

In another collision, a Tahlequah man was flown to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas after his vehicle left the road and struck a fence. The OHP trooper reported Ronald Lamb was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck north on Old Toll Gate Road when, for an unknown reason, he left the road to the left, then over-corrected and left the road to the right, where the truck struck a fence and came to a stop in a ditch. The wreck happened at 4:08 p.m. Sunday. Lamb was wearing his seat belt, the OHP reported.

Sallisaw Man, Girl Friend Charged in Theft

 

An arrest warrant, with a $10,000 bond attached, was issued July 14 for a 25-year-old Sallisaw man accused of second-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property. Information filed with the warrant request by Sallisaw police reports that Christopher Stephen Taylor was believed to have taken a chainsaw and trimmer from a relative's barn. Police found the chainsaw on July 9 at a Fort Smith pawn shop and were told the item was pawned by Vickie Randolph, 27, also of Sallisaw. Randolph was charged July 11 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with grand larceny and knowingly concealing stolen property. Child Hospitalized in Stable Condition

One child was hospitalized after an Albuquerque, N.M., family was involved in a one-vehicle wreck at about 7:04 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 40, one mile west of Webbers Falls. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported John Facemire, 46, of Albuquerque was driving a 2009 Ford pickup, pulling a 35-foot camping trailer, west on the interstate when he had to swerve to the left to avoid another vehicle. The truck left the highway to the left and impacted the cable barrier in the median, then rolled one time. The truck and trailer came to rest in the westbound lanes. Facemire, Tammy Facemire, 34, of Albuquerque, and a 1-year-old boy and an 8-year-old female, also of Albuquerque, were all transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Both adult Facemires and the 1-year-old girl were treated and released. The 1-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital in stable condition with head injuries. The OHP reported seat belts and child restraints were in use. The OHP does not release the names of juveniles involved in collisions.

One Hospitalized after Boat Wreck

 A one-boat wreck on the Arkansas River in Sequoyah County at 7 pm Saturday sent the whole crew to the hospital, where one was hospitalized. An Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division trooper reported Mark Jennings, 38, of Shawnee was driving a 2000 31-foot Warlock boat east on the river when he struck a buoy, lost control of the boat and struck the shoreline. Jennings was transported by Fort Smith EMS to St. Edwards Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith where he was listed in stable condition with a neck injury. Four passengers on the boat were transported by Fort Smith EMS, and treated and released at the hospital. They are Jason Rosenfelt, 35, of Norman who suffered internal injuries; Michael Duton, 49, of Yukon, who suffered a head injury; Trisha Davis, 25, of New Walla, who suffered internal injuries; and Brandy Jennings, 34, of Shawnee who suffered trunk injuries. Warrant Issued for Alleged Jewelry Thief

An arrest warrant was issued July 11 for a Muldrow man who allegedly has two rings that were stolen from a Muldrow woman. But Jonathan Lewis Cantwell, 30, told the victim that he bought the rings from a third party. The victim told Muldrow police that Cantwell knows where she lives and that he has two rings that belong to her. She said she asked Cantwell to return the rings but he has not done so. Cantwell was charged July 11 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw, with knowingly concealing stolen property. A $5,000 bond was attached to the arrest warrant.
