CASC Announces May 8 Graduation Plans

Carl Albert State College has planned its graduation ceremony for Saturday, May 8. This ceremony will honor the Spring 2020, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 graduates.

“It has been our goal since the pandemic began to hold an actual ceremony to honor our graduates,” President Jay Falkner said. “Our Executive Cabinet has opted to celebrate our graduates in person. We felt our students have worked hard and we wanted to honor them in a special way.”

“CASC had held off scheduling a graduation ceremony for 2021 due to inconsistencies in COVID-19 cases; however, the number of positive cases declined for a period of time, but we were never comfortable with putting folks at risk, given that a second peak was possible,” Falkner said. “We wanted to honor our graduates, but also be responsible. With the vaccine in place, and more folks receiving the vaccine, we feel now is the time to begin planning for a graduation.”

The ceremony will be at the Hamilton Auditorium and will only be open to graduates, but it will be broadcast live on VikingTV, the college’s streaming platform. “The possibilities VikingTV has created, in terms of bringing events back to campus in a safe way, are endless. We’re so grateful that we can offer the family and friends of our graduates the opportunity to celebrate this occasion.”

Additional details about the May 8 ceremony will be released in the coming weeks.
