Sallisaw Police and the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Dept. are working two scenes of a gunfight that occurred earlier today near Muldrow.
The gunfight occurred at a private residence northeast of Muldrow. According to Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane two male subjects exchanged several rounds of gunfire and each were hit at least once. After the incident occurred one of the subjects fled the scene. The subject that remained at the residence was transported to a Fort Smith hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The subject that left the scene was later located on Blue Mouse Road. His truck had left the roadway and overturned near a creek. When located by Sequoyah County Deputies he had a gunshot wound to the chest but was conscious and responsive. He was transported by ambulance to a different Fort Smith hospital from the first subject.
Sheriff Lane stated that it is unclear at this time what caused the altercation between the two men.
As of 8:30 p.m. one of the subjects had been released from the hospital while the other remain hospitalized, according to Lane.
The names of the men or their conditions have not been released at this time. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
