The Cherokee Nation hosts its 13th annual Traditional Native Games competition Saturday, May 19, at Sequoyah’s Cabin Museum near Sallisaw.

Competitions include a cornstalk shoot, Cherokee marbles, horseshoes and blow gun, which all start at 10 a.m., with chunkey beginning at 12:30 p.m. and hatchet-throwing beginning after the youth cornstalk shoot.

“All of our games are open to the public, and we encourage everyone to come and watch the action. You’ll have a great time fellowshipping, and there is no cost to watch the games or to participate in the games,” said Competition Director Bayly Wright. “If you want to participate as a player, you’ll want to pre-register with the coordinators of the competitions.”
