Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam

The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about an ongoing telephone scam in our area.

Residents have reported receiving calls from an individual stating that they are an OG&E service worker who is going to cut off the resident's electricity.  The caller then directs the resident to call OG&E customer service and provides a false number. If the resident calls the number, it will be answered as OG&E Customer Service and they will attempt to coerce the resident into paying their bill and thus becoming a victim of the scam.

If you receive a call like this, the sheriff's office states that you should hang up immediately and contact the actual OG&E customer service office at (800)272-9741.
