Muldrow Man Faces Forgery Charges

A Muldrow man was charged in district court last week with two counts of second-degree forgery. Michael Todd Jeremiah, 26, is alleged to have stolen personal checks from a relative, and cashed one, for $150, while the other, for $90, was turned down. Jeremiah admitted to the Sallisaw police officer that he did cash the checks but it was for a third party who threatened Jeremiah. Two Georgia Men Charged

Two men from Georgia were charged July 30 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with unlawful possession of controlled drugs with intent to distribute and misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Christopher Ryan Barber, 29, of Carrollton, Georgia and Garyeon Boykin, 31, of Bowdon, Georgia were arrested July 16 while traveling east on Interstate 40. An OHP trooper saw the suspects following too closely in their red Chrysler Pacifica and saw them make two unsafe lane changes. When stopped, at about the 315 mile marker, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search uncovered four vacuum-sealed bags of green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana. The trooper confiscated the three pounds and placed both men under arrest. OHP Confiscates 85 Pounds of Pot

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues to interfere with illegal marijuana transport on Interstate 40, confiscating 85 pounds of that green leafy substance on July 23. Arrested and charged July 30 in Sequoyah County District Court for trafficking in illegal drugs were Richard R. House, 34, of Ukiah, California and Henry Castro, 53, of Maitland, Florida. OHP troopers reported finding 75 bundles of green leafy substance that tested positive as marijuana in a toolbox in the pickup truck driven by Hoese. The bundles weighed in at 85 pounds. Both men entered not guilty pleas at their arraignment July 30, and their cases are on Judge Larry Langley's disposition docket on August 20. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director

Lab Dump Leads to Fire and Charges

A charge of unlawfully disposing of hazardous waste was filed against a Florida man July 30 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw. Jessie Dean Mosby, 34, of Palm Bay, Florida is accused of disposing of an alleged drug lab in a dumpster at Downtown Apartments in Sallisaw. The dumpster then caught fire, which attracted police and the fire department. A witness gave Sallisaw police the tag number from the vehicle driven by the man who placed the materials in the dumpster, which led police to the home of the vehicle owner and Mosby. Mosby told police he was looking for tools to repair a lawn mower but instead found materials normally used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. He told police he saw that some materials had started to melt, and he decided to dump the materials in the closest dumpster, which was at the apartment complex. Mosby was arrested and booked into the city jail without incident, police reported. Mosby pleaded not guilty to the charge on July 30 and his case is on Judge Larry Langley's disposition docket August 20. By Sally Maxwell, Senior News Director

Corps Offers Tours of Towboat

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District is offering the public two opportunities to tour the Motor Vessel Mississippi, the largest diesel towboat operating the Mississippi River. Tours are free and open to the public. They will take place:
*Friday, August 8, from 6-7 p.m. at the Kerr Lock & Dam, in Sallisaw and
*Saturday, August 9, from 6-7 p.m. at the Port of Muskogee.
Please note that backpacks are not permitted on board the vessel.

The M/V Mississippi, which will host the Mississippi River Commission's annual low-water inspection trip on the McClellan, Kerr, Arkansas River Navigation System, is 241-feet long and 58-feet wide. The 6,300 horsepower vessel serves as a working towboat 90 percent of the time. Also a passenger boat, the vessel houses 22 staterooms, a dining room that seats 85 and a conference room that seats 115 people. The MRC flagship can accommodate 150 passengers. The vessel's primary mission is to move barges in support of bank stabilization work on the lower Mississippi River. Each spring and late summer, the MRC conducts a series of public meetings aboard the vessel. The MRC, established in 1879, uses the M/V Mississippi to host public hearings, a process unique to the Mississippi River Commission and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This allows the public a greater voice in shaping federal policy by discussing their concerns with those individuals responsible for improving the condition of the river, fostering navigation, promoting commerce, and reducing flood risk along the watershed. Pair Accused of Drug Trafficking

 



A man and woman from Oklahoma City were charged last week in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw with trafficking in illegal drugs, after an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper found 333 pounds of packaged green leafy substance, proven later to be marijuana, in their vehicle. Luadia Williams, 58, and Landon Lamar Cummings, 34, both of Oklahoma City were charged with trafficking in illegal drugs. Cummings entered a not guilty plea on July 23. Both were being held on $25,000 bonds each. According to the patrolman's report filed with the charges, he stopped the vehicle the suspects were driving after Williams, the driver, failed to signal lane changes. Williams told the trooper that Cummings was her nephew. After noticing the pair were nervous, the trooper asked to search the vehicle, but Williams refused. A drug detection dog was brought in and alerted on the vehicle. A search uncovered a black duffel bag in the trunk containing 27 taped brick bundles and one vacuum-sealed plastic bundle of green leafy substance. The confiscated bundles weighed in at 33 pounds. Vehicle Accident in Sallisaw

At approximately 9:00 am, Sallisaw Emergency Personnel were called to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Redwood and Shurley streets in Sallisaw. This intersection is located near Hog Creek Salvage and the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds. The accident involved a red late model Ford SUV that apparently left the roadway. The vehicle was traveling west bound on Redwood and left the roadway to the North and crashed at the Northeast corner of the intersection. There were injuries involved, however they do not appear to be life threatening. EMS was on the scene and did transport. Story reported by Chris Berton.
