Angela Nicole Waycaster, 28, of Tahlequah was charged with child neglect Jan. 3 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.
Waycaster was arrested in Vian on Dec. 26 and accused of leaving her seven-year-old son at the Vian Nursing Home. The child was taken into custody and released into the custody of his father.
According to the arresting Vian officer’s report, he was dispatched to the Vian Nursing Home at about 2:46 p.m. Dec. 26. He reported the staff said a child had been left unattended at the facility.
It was alleged the child had been left unattended at the nursing home several times, in the room of a relative. The officer parked across the street and watched for the mother to return. When she came back for the child, the officer stopped her and asked what she was doing. He reported he could smell the odor of alcohol on her breath, and Waycaster told the officer she had been drinking.
The officer told the woman she could not drive with children after she had been drinking, and the woman called the father to pick up the children. At that point, the officer reported the woman had three children with her.
At about the same time the father and a Department of Human Services worker arrived, and the children were placed in the father’s custody.
Waycaster was transported to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw. She was released Jan. 3 on a $15,000 bond.
