At the food distribution at Gardenwalk in Vian are Manuel Terrill, Ed Mars, Melissa Adams, January Townsend, Ashley Tuck, Mary Morris, Caty McMurtry, Michael Parson, Samantha Compton, Haydan Parson, Bryson Pack, Chance Parson, Jacob Wittman, Dale Siers, and Jack Armstrong.
For the first time, Gardenwalk of Vian hosted a distribution of free foodstuffs by the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
With the help of local managers and maintenance technicians from sister properties, along with volunteers from the community, over 130 folks received food in December.
The food truck arrived at about 10 a.m. and gave away foods until 12:30 p.m. A total of 12,000 pounds of food was delivered and distributed.
Samantha Compton, GardenWalk of Vian site manager, said, “It went better than I could ever have imagined! The people just kept coming for help.”
Compton said the volunteers were incredible, and never stopped moving the whole time - packing, bagging, loading cars, even going door to door and cleaning up.
Located in Tulsa, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma distributes food and other grocery items to 450 Partner Programs in eastern Oklahoma, including food pantries, emergency shelters, soup kitchens, senior citizen centers and after-school programs. In Fiscal Year 2015, the Food Bank distributed more than 21.6 million pounds of food throughout the 24 counties of eastern Oklahoma.
